Sammamish Suite

Nestled down a private road in the wooded area of Sammamish, it’s hard to believe this Primary Suite once housed a bouncy house —one heck of a personal space sacrifice made by the loving parents of two rambunctious boys.

We transformed the bones of this suite, by creating a new sense of entrance. We created purpose to an existing, disjointed wing wall by extending a new cased opening across its way. We added elements of texture through the use of wallpaper, paneling of the headboard wall, and T&G plank at the ceiling. For visual contrast, we added a center ridge beam that was skinned in oak to match the strikingly handsome herringbone flooring. We addressed the decorative lighting and designed a contemporary marble slab fireplace to juxtapose the traditional backdrop.

For the furnishings, we were influenced by some of the clients’ existing pieces —antiques, handsome detailing, luxe materials and texture. It was important that the new suite felt like an extension of the rest of the home. So, we blended natural fibers like leather, wool boucle, mohair, sisal, linen and cashmere. No layer was overlooked, and every inch was thoughtfully curated to reflect the personal style of these clients.

“I’m thankful for your incredible spirit and vision, and for this incredible space that is truly a mother’s refuge.” —The client

This project graciously won the “Rising Star” award at the 2022 NW Design Awards Ceremony hosted by the Seattle Design Center.
